Imsil-gun 'Okjeongho Bungeo Island Suspension Bridge' to Open Next Year

[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk, will open a suspension bridge connecting Okjeongho and Bungeo Island next year.

According to the county on the 16th, Bungeo Island is well known as a beautiful and mysterious island resembling a crucian carp floating in the middle of Okjeongho.

However, since there has been no bridge to access it, many tourists had to be satisfied with viewing or taking pictures from afar.

The county is accelerating the construction of a 410-meter-long suspension bridge with a total project cost of 9.6 billion KRW as part of the eastern region development project of Jeonbuk Province.

For tourists visiting Bungeo Island, last year they created a theme park including a visitor center, lawn yard, forest library, wind bathing area, and Sky Viewing Rest Area, along with flower gardens and a waterfront walking path to enjoy together.

They are making various efforts to create a four-season garden on Bungeo Island so that the beautiful colors of multicolored flowers can be seen and enjoyed throughout the year, providing an urban rest space.

The county especially expects that once the suspension bridge opens, many tourists nationwide will visit Okjeongho, and plans to develop a large parking lot for about 600 vehicles and Yosan Park as an open tourist site.

They are also rushing to establish stay-type tourism infrastructure harmonizing waterfront, ecology, and forest by creating theme parks and campgrounds utilizing the waterfront and surrounding terrain of Okjeongho.

Recently, they completed the ‘Okjeongho Promotion Plan Research Service’ to maximize the value of Okjeongho’s pristine natural scenery and widely promote it as a representative tourism brand.

Through this, they have established various promotional strategies suitable for the opening of the Okjeongho era, including brand naming and symbolic sculptures, revitalization of the Young Water Mist Road, development of food and souvenirs, discovery of photo spots, and designation of food-specialized streets, accelerating their implementation.

Also, they have invested 33 billion KRW in Okjeongho this year to promote the ‘1st phase Seomjingang Eco Museum Project,’ and from this year until 2025, they are carrying out the ‘2nd phase Seomjingang Eco Museum Project’ with an investment of 25 billion KRW over five years.

County Governor Shim Min said, “Once the suspension bridge connecting Okjeongho and Bungeo Island is built, it will be reborn as a four-season experiential and stay-type tourist destination,” adding, “We will successfully promote the premium tourism belt project centered on Okjeongho, the treasure of Jeonbuk Province, and lay the foundation for the Seomjingang Renaissance.”
