The Central Disease Control Headquarters reported that as of midnight, the total cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the country increased by 2,125 from the previous day to 399,591. Of these, 2,110 were domestic cases and 15 were imported cases.
By region, Seoul reported 839 cases, Gyeonggi 653 cases, and Incheon 131 cases, totaling 1,623 cases (76.9%), continuing the spread centered around the metropolitan area.
Non-metropolitan areas reported a total of 487 cases (23.1%), including Busan 86, Jeonbuk 55, Gangwon 51, Gyeongnam 45, Jeju 43, Chungnam 42, Daegu 38, Daejeon 35, Jeonnam 29, Chungbuk 28, Gwangju 11, Ulsan and Gyeongbuk 9 each, and Sejong 6.
Among the 15 imported cases, one was detected during quarantine, and 14 were confirmed in the local community.
The number of critically ill patients is 495. The number of critically ill patients, which had been rising in the 400s, increased by 24 in one day, surpassing the previous record of 485 on the 13th.
The death toll increased by 22 the previous day, bringing the total cumulative deaths to 3,137. The fatality rate stands at 0.79%.
