[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] NS Home Shopping announced on the 15th that it has introduced artificial intelligence (AI) voice actors for the first time in the home shopping industry.
AI voice actors are a digital technology that uses AI voice synthesis technology through artificial intelligence deep learning to convert scripts into voice actor narrations with various voices. In most TV home shopping broadcasts, voice actor narrations are used between insert videos and shopping hosts' presentations to focus on key purchasing information such as product prices and special features.
The company explained, "Unlike the traditional method, which is difficult to cast voices suitable for products and incurs high costs, AI voice actors can utilize voice actor narrations of various characters without time and space constraints, and costs can also be reduced."
Since last month, NS Home Shopping has started applying AI voice actors to its proprietary animation character 'Ari' and the food-specialized program Big Mama's 'Big Show,' expanding this to various category broadcasts such as insurance and rental terms introductions. In the future, they plan to further expand the use of AI voice actors by reading viewers' real-time comments during live commerce broadcasts.
The AI voice actor introduced by NS Home Shopping is 'Typecast,' a platform serviced by the startup 'Neosapience,' which developed the original voice synthesis technology. It offers about 160 types of AI voice actors with diverse personalities ranging from news casters to home shopping characters at reasonable costs. Recently, based on NS Home Shopping's first application case, the business is expanding to other home shopping channels.

NS Home Shopping is also preparing to produce 'custom voices' using the AI voice actor service in collaboration with 'Neosapience.' They plan to implement NS Home Shopping's unique voices as AI voice actors, including shopping host Jang Sung-min, who appeared on audition entertainment programs, and shopping host Kim Hye-sun, a former weathercaster.
