North Korea Reacts Sharply to 'Human Rights Criticism'... Repeatedly Condemns Western Countries
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] North Korea is criticizing the human rights situations in Western countries such as the United States and Europe. This appears to be part of a strategy to justify their demand for the 'withdrawal of hostile policies,' in response to the recent adoption of the North Korea human rights resolution at the United Nations General Assembly.
On the 12th, the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on its website an article titled "The United States cannot escape responsibility for the worst Afghan crisis," claiming that "the United States, which occupied Afghanistan for 20 years under the pretext of the war on terror, devastated the country extremely and caused the worst humanitarian crisis, is the very culprit."
It continued, "The United States, which frequently talks about humanitarianism and human rights, can never escape responsibility for the unprecedented anti-humanitarian crimes it committed in Afghanistan," emphasizing this point.
In another article titled "The United States has no qualification to judge anyone," it stated, "The United States, which holds the worst record of human rights violations due to racism, hate crimes, and the massacre of civilians by the U.S. military, is utterly absurd to judge the qualifications of other countries."
Regarding European countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "They should focus on solving their own domestic problems first," listing cases of police abuse of power in the Czech Republic, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, and condemned them as "the shameless behavior of European countries that carry other countries' human rights issues under the banner of 'human rights advocacy' and lecture others."
This is not the first time North Korea has criticized Western societies on human rights. On the 9th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through a statement by Ri Sang-rim, Chairman of the Korea-Europe Association, condemned the UN North Korea human rights resolution as a "slanderous 'resolution' filled with fabricated false materials," and criticized it by saying, "Handle your own domestic human rights filth."
Chairman Ri raised his voice, saying, "The European allied countries are rife with deep-rooted racism, racial discrimination, refugee abuse, police violence, murder, sexual assault, and all kinds of human rights violations that shock the world," urging them to "clean up their own domestic human rights filth" first.

North Korea regards the mention of human rights issues by the UN and others as part of the 'hostile policy' against North Korea and demands its abolition from the U.S. Recently, by pointing out problems in Western societies and claiming that North Korea is better than the West in terms of human rights, it seems to be not only a backlash against the UN North Korea human rights resolution but also an attempt to justify its demand for the withdrawal of hostile policies.
