[Asia Economy Reporter Na Yeeun] A male passenger in his 20s who verbally abused and assaulted a taxi driver in his 40s said he "does not remember" the incident.
On the 11th, a video titled "Met a Silver Spoon Who Abused a Taxi Driver with a 1.5 Billion Won Apartment" was uploaded on the YouTube channel 'CaraculaTV.' In the video, Caracula met and talked with passenger A (28).
According to the black box footage released by the taxi driver, who was assaulted by A and shared with the media, the incident occurred in the early morning of the 5th. When the taxi driver stopped near an apartment complex in Songpa-gu, Seoul, the destination, and woke A by saying, "We're here. We're here," A shouted, "I know. Damn, you're so annoying, really."
When A did not get off, the taxi driver said again, "We're here, so get off and pay." Then A verbally abused the taxi driver, saying, "I said I know, damn it. Get off, you damn bastard. Don’t you listen? Get off," and dragged him out, assaulting him.
During this, A reportedly said to the taxi driver, "How little must your mother have to have for you to be driving a taxi now?" and "Do you know how much my house is worth? It's 1.5 billion won."
The taxi driver was reportedly hit so hard that even his front teeth were broken.
A said about the situation, "I don’t remember well," adding, "I don’t even know how I got in the taxi." He continued, "Until the news was reported, I thought it was just a simple quarrel, but after the news came out, I realized my mistake."
He added, "I have had memory loss after drinking before, and I often got irritated with my parents, so I am discussing starting medication treatment," and "Even in school, I used to lose my temper when teachers or parents woke me up."
When asked if he intended to claim diminished mental capacity, he said, "I won’t submit a medical certificate, and I won’t mention it at all during the police investigation."
Regarding his statement that his apartment is worth 1.5 billion won, he said, "I have never bragged about it to my friends or anything. It’s not something to brag about, and it’s not that expensive. I know that, so I don’t really know why I said that."
He emphasized again that he intends to apologize to the taxi driver. A said, "Watching the video, I am clearly the perpetrator. I will handle the situation well." It is also known that A decided to withdraw the countersuit against the taxi driver.
Meanwhile, the taxi driver said, "My parents must have seen what (the passenger) said, and how heartbreaking that must have been," adding, "My parents are the most precious to me, and I regretted reporting it because I felt like I was hurting them."
