[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] The Korea Cement Association held the launch ceremony of the 'Gangneung Fund Management Committee' at Halla Cement's Ok-gye Plant on the 11th to support the local community and residents, officially starting the community coexistence program.
In February, the cement industry signed a 'Voluntary Fundraising Agreement by the Cement Industry to Expand Community Contributions' worth 25 billion KRW with members of the National Assembly from districts where cement production plants are located. The Gangneung Fund Management Committee was established as part of this agreement, led by Halla Cement, which has its main plant in Ok-gye-myeon, Gangneung City. It will implement projects related to fundraising and operation of social contribution activities for the Gangneung and Ok-gye areas where the production plants are located.
The Fund Management Committee consists of seven members, including Kim Young-hwan, Head of Production at Halla Cement, and former and current figures active in the Gangneung area. Halla Cement plans to continue its existing social contribution activities and strengthen support for communication with the local community, economic revitalization, and improving the actual quality of life for local residents through the committee.
The launch of the Gangneung Fund Management Committee has been welcomed by the local community. A local resident expressed expectations, saying, "Since the fund will be raised and managed transparently and continuously, and we can participate directly, residents' demands will be reflected quickly and reliably."
Kim Young-hwan, Head of Production at Halla Cement and elected as a committee member recommended by Halla Cement, said, "We aim to provide practical help to local residents through efficient and transparent fund management," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that the company and the local community can coexist through active communication with the community."
