Hanjayeon Collaborates with UK Automotive Research Institute for Early Commercialization of Autonomous Driving
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATRI) is partnering with the UK automotive research organization HORIBA-MIRA to collaborate on technology for the early commercialization of autonomous driving.
On the 11th (local time), Nam-yong Heo, President of KATRI, and Roysin Hopkins, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of HORIBA-MIRA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for joint research and development (R&D) cooperation on core future vehicle technologies, including autonomous vehicles, at HORIBA-MIRA headquarters in Nuneaton, UK.
HORIBA-MIRA is an automotive research institute established by the UK government in 1945 under the name MIRA. After being privatized in 1975, it was acquired in 2015 by the Japanese instrumentation manufacturer HORIBA, and the name was changed to HORIBA-MIRA.
Currently, over 600 engineers work there, and the institute occupies a 3.44 million square meter site with 39 testing and crash test facilities, including the world's largest 100 km driving test track.
Following the MOU signing, KATRI and HORIBA-MIRA plan to promote joint R&D through ▲technology development in electric vehicles including connected autonomous vehicles (CAV) ▲application development ▲new testing and verification methods for the commercialization of connected autonomous driving ▲and research infrastructure and personnel exchanges.
