"Bill Gates and Zuckerberg, Come Out, We're Going to Beat You!" ... Dongmyeong University’s Vibrant 'SW Talent Startup Camp'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] “We also dream of becoming Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg!”
College and high school students aspiring to start businesses in the SW industry formed teams and challenged “Bill Gates” over two days. Only challenge, experience, and practice can break the seal in the SW world. Their challenge embodies the university’s educational method called ‘Doing.’
Dongmyung University, which will open the ‘Doing University’ next year, requires students to do everything to earn credits.
The Dongmyung University SW-Centered University Project Group also held a Doing Camp under an interesting name.
It was the ‘2nd More (尤) Higher (高) Greater (大) 2021 SW Talent Startup Camp.’ The camp name starts with ‘More’ derived from the Chinese character尤 (more), aiming to achieve startup dreams higher (高) and greater (大). The campers were aiming even for Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.
The project group ran a two-day ‘Doing’ program for Dongmyung University students and high school students. Four startup clubs from Daejin Electronic High School, Busan Computer Science High School, and Bu-il Electronic Design High School, along with three teams from Dongmyung University students, a total of seven teams, gathered at Busan Nongshim Hotel on the 4th and 5th to brainstorm.
On the first day, holding a bundle of lectures on setting startup goals, business item value propositions, sales, and services, CEO Kang Jong-su of Calls Dynamics took the stage. Also, Kim Yong-hoon, CMO of PetFriends, and Lee Woo-jin, CEO of Amuse, unveiled the ‘silk pouch’ containing startup secrets.
On the second day, intensive startup education using prospective entrepreneurs’ business items, heated mentor-mentee discussions, actual item commercialization presentations, investment briefings, and competitions over secured investment funds were held. Two teams from the high school division and two teams from the university division received prize money and certificates.
The ‘SW-Centered University Project Group Director Award’ went to the high school division’s HECT (IT developer recruitment platform) and the university division’s TOGI (multi-player cooperative raid game) teams.
The ‘AI Convergence Dean’s Award’ was given to the high school division’s Science Warrior (With Contest Korea) and the university division’s SmartArm (AI smart farm).
A special award for guiding teachers was given to Lee Hyun-jin of Bu-il Electronic Design High School and Jang Yong-jun of Busan Computer Science High School.
