This cleanup activity was carried out with the participation of about 40 people from organizations and groups including the maritime police, Mokpo City, Mokpo branch of the Korea Marine Environment Corporation, and honorary marine environment monitors as part of the '2021 Mokpo City Sea Saving Practice Competition.'
On that day, the maritime police actively participated in the campaign to create a clean sea by collecting abandoned fishing gear, waste oil (containers), and illegally discharged marine debris left in the ports and harbors.
In addition, they distributed promotional leaflets to fishing industry stakeholders explaining how to handle pollutants from fishing vessels and examples of violations, urging participation in creating a clean marine environment.
A representative of Mokpo Maritime Police said, “We plan to strengthen education and publicity so that fishermen and other marine workers can pay attention to the marine environment and recognize its seriousness. We will do our best to carry out preventive activities that meet the public’s expectations and to eliminate the root causes of pollution accidents.”
