[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People’s Party, simultaneously targeted Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, and Yoon Seok-youl, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, saying, "Candidates abandoned by the younger generation are engaging in a populist competition that betrays the youth."
On the 9th, Ahn posted on his Facebook, "When Candidate Lee bet on '500,000 won disaster relief payments for all citizens,' Candidate Yoon shouted '50 trillion won for self-employed' to 'top that.' Instead of having a policy debate, they are gambling," adding, "The candidates of the two entrenched parties have started a 'war of money,' using the national debt as their stake. Ultimately, no matter who wins, it looks like the future of the youth is being exploited."
Ahn criticized the relief fund pledges put forward by Candidates Lee and Yoon.
Regarding Lee’s claim of 'disaster relief payments for all citizens,' he said, "Lee’s basis is that 'the nation is wealthy' and 'the national treasury is full,' but South Korea has the fastest-growing national debt ratio among OECD countries, and its potential growth rate is expected to be the lowest among 38 member countries, dropping to the 0% range after 2030. If more taxes are collected, that money should be used to repay national debt, which is the intent of the National Finance Act."
On Yoon’s claim of '50 trillion won compensation for self-employed losses,' he sharply criticized it as "nothing more than the behavior of a gambler shouting 'double or nothing.'" Ahn pointed out, "They say the money will be paid within 100 days after the new government takes office, but why it is 50 trillion will be explained after 100 days. The sequence of events is completely reversed. It’s absurd," adding, "It seems all that’s left is to fit the affected industries and scale to match the 50 trillion won."
He then regarded the two candidates’ pledges as populism. He said, "Candidate Lee criticized Candidate Yoon’s pledge as 'political strategy,' 'mocking the people,' and 'populism,' but it’s strange to see the 'king of populism' teaching a 'populism beginner' how to 'blow the wind.' It’s 'good populism when I do it, bad populism when others do it,'" mocking them.

He continued, "It seems they have finished calculating that the giveaway competition is advantageous for immediate votes, but the youth know well that all of this is just showing off with money they will have to repay," warning, "The giveaway competition of the two major parties will never be forgiven by our youth. I will never let it go either."
