Seongdong-gu Provides Daily Life Services Such as Knife Sharpening and Umbrella Repair
Seongdong-gu to Hold 'Seongdong Daily Life Close-up Days' by District for 4 Days from the 9th to 12th... 10 Convenient Services Including Knife Sharpening, Umbrella Repair, and Flowerpot Making Experience Booths Provided
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) will hold the ‘Seongdong Daily Life Close-to-Residents Day’ event for four days from the 9th to the 12th.
‘Seongdong Daily Life Close-to-Residents Day’ is an event where small services needed in daily life are brought directly to residents and provided, allowing them to see and experience everything in one place.
This year, the event will be held by region based on four local hubs, prepared as a place to experience the resident-centered projects promoted by the district through six close-to-life services and four experiential exhibition programs.
Last year’s most popular repair service will be actively promoted, allowing residents to sharpen knives or repair umbrellas and broken bicycles. Along with handmade shoes and clothing alterations, smartphone usage guidance and photo printing services have been added this year, providing a variety of close-to-life services.
Programs that residents can directly participate in are also prepared. These include making body scrubs using coffee grounds, eco-friendly kitchen soap, wooden cutting board woodworking crafts, repotting air-purifying plants, and an exhibition event of the Earth Bus at Seoul Sae Hwal-yong Plaza to raise awareness about the environment, aiming to increase residents’ interest and engagement.
This event, held for the third time this year, received high acclaim last year with about 400 participants and over 3,200 services provided. It will be conducted safely by strictly following social distancing guidelines, requiring mask-wearing, and maintaining an appropriate number of attendees through a reservation system.
The district plans to actively promote this event as a place where residents can communicate and empathize by confirming resident demand for various preemptively implemented close-to-life administrative services once again, cooperating with various organizations such as Seoul Sae Hwal-yong Plaza, Seongdong-gu Apartment Community Association, Seongsu Handmade Shoes Artisan Volunteers, and Seongdong Regional Self-Support Center.

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “We hope this will be an opportunity for residents, who have found it difficult to actively use various close-to-life services due to the spread of COVID-19, to experience small but essential services, and that it will become a festival of resident communication and harmony combining sights and enjoyment.”
