'Blockchain Determination' Wemade, Racing with Money-Making Games [Buaeri's Game Dictionary]
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] "The game 'Mir4' riding on the blockchain platform WEMIX has achieved tremendous global success, and its growth shows no signs of stopping." - Jang Hyun-guk, CEO of Wemade
Wemade Soars on the Success of Mir4
According to Wemade on the 6th, third-quarter sales reached 63.3 billion KRW, and operating profit was 17.4 billion KRW. Sales increased by 167% compared to the previous year, and operating profit turned positive. The hit new release Mir4 drove the strong performance. Released globally in over 170 countries in August, Mir4 surpassed 1 million concurrent users. Mir4 incorporates blockchain-based Non-Fungible Token (NFT) technology.
CEO Jang stated, "Mir4 has achieved tremendous global success and its growth is ongoing," adding, "Wemade will not let this unprecedented success end with a single game but will present a new paradigm in the global market."
Playing Games and Earning Money... Ushering in the Play and Earn Era
CEO Jang explained, "While the term Play to Earn (P2E) has become mainstream, I want to use the phrase 'Play and Earn,'" noting, "This is the reality happening in Mir4." It is a kind of 'two birds with one stone' concept where players enjoy fun and high-quality game content while also earning some income.
Wemade has integrated blockchain-based NFT technology into the global version of Mir4 to provide users with a money-earning gaming experience. The in-game currency 'Heukcheol,' used for item enhancement, has been tokenized as an NFT. It was converted into the utility coin 'Draco' and can be traded on the WEMIX platform.
100 Blockchain Games to be Released
Following Mir4, Wemade plans to officially launch the new mobile game MirM next year. Additionally, affiliated companies Longtu Korea and NT Games are preparing to release blockchain games such as 'Yeolhyeol Gangho' and 'Galaxy Tornado,' while Wemade Plus is preparing casual blockchain games like 'Aqua Tornado' and 'Fishing Tornado' for release in the first quarter of next year. Wemade aims to release 100 blockchain games by the end of next year.
Among domestic game companies, Wemade has been a pioneer in focusing on the potential of blockchain games and has invested considerable effort. In 2018, through its subsidiary Wemade Tree, it entered the cryptocurrency business. Recently, Wemade merged Wemade Tree to concentrate company-wide capabilities on the metaverse business linking games and blockchain.
Yesterday, Wemade made a strategic investment in Action Square, the game developer behind 'Blade for Kakao.' The plan is to collaborate in the metaverse business by servicing Action Square's games on the blockchain platform WEMIX. CEO Jang emphasized, "Blockchain games are a new genre, and Wemade is doing things it has never done before," adding, "We will show better growth and results that exceed market expectations."
