A Man in His 50s Arrested for Attempting to Set Fire to a Police Substation Out of Resentment Over Drunk Driving Punishment
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] A man in his 50s, harboring a grudge over a drinking-related punishment, was arrested by the police for attempting to set fire to the local police substation.
According to the Miryang Police Station in Gyeongnam on the 4th, the police have detained and are investigating Mr. A on charges of attempting to set fire to a public building (preparation for arson of a public building).
Mr. A is accused of dousing himself with gasoline and trying to ignite it with a lighter in the parking lot of the Sanoe Police Substation in Sanoe-myeon, Miryang City, around 3:30 PM the previous day while intoxicated.
Fortunately, the fire did not occur thanks to the quick response of the police substation staff who restrained Mr. A.
It was also revealed that Mr. A made a threatening phone call before arriving at the police substation, saying, "I will set it on fire."
Four months ago, Mr. A was punished with a 5 million won fine and had his driver's license revoked after causing a traffic accident while driving under the influence. The police who responded to the report at that time belonged to this police substation.
Mr. A stated, "I was angry about the punishment for drunk driving and tried to set fire to the police substation."
