[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LS Cable & System announced on the 3rd that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Canadian renewable energy developer Northland Power to cooperate on domestic offshore wind power projects.
Through this agreement, the two companies will define each party's roles and related matters for offshore wind power projects and collaborate on related EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) businesses.
Northland Power, established in Toronto in 1987, has built and operated renewable energy infrastructure such as wind and solar power mainly in Europe and has recently been actively expanding into Asian markets including Taiwan and Japan.
LS Cable & System has continuously built a cooperative relationship, including being selected as the preferred supplier of submarine cables for Northland Power's 1GW-class Hai Long offshore wind farm project in Taiwan.
The company expects an increase in submarine cable sales as Northland Power is expanding its business domestically, including the 1.3GW-class Jeonnam Dado Ocean Wind Power project.
Myung Noh-hyun, CEO of LS Cable & System, said, "Through this agreement, we will respond to the government's renewable energy policies and contribute to regional economic development and job creation."
