Public Research Institute Technology Transfer Performance Bonuses Will Be Given Not Only to Individuals but Also to Departments
Ministry of Science and ICT Develops Plan to Improve Compensation System
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] The government is changing regulations to provide performance bonuses to technology transfer dedicated organizations within public research institutions.
On the 3rd, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it will establish an appropriate compensation system for technology transfer dedicated organizations within public research institutions such as university-affiliated research institutes to strengthen their capabilities and promote the transfer and commercialization of developed technologies to the private sector.
This is to improve the difficulty in selecting contributors for compensation, as the scope of performance utilization contributors had been limited to individual employees.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to revise the "Technology Transfer Contributor Compensation Guidelines" to overcome the lack of motivation for contributors to utilize and promote performance. To promote technology transfer and technology commercialization, the scope of recipients eligible for performance utilization contributor compensation specified in the existing guidelines will be expanded to include technology transfer dedicated organizations.

Oh Tae-seok, Director of Science and Technology Innovation Coordination at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, "We hope that establishing an appropriate compensation system for technology transfer dedicated organizations, which work hard to analyze marketability and business feasibility from the research planning stage and to disseminate performance throughout the entire research and development process, will become an opportunity to strengthen national technological competitiveness in the future."
