Democratic Party Gwangju Branch Strongly Criticizes Professor Seomin's 'Hong-eo Junpyo' Remark
"Explicit Disparaging Remarks About Honam"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Party of the Democratic Party of Korea strongly condemned Professor Seo Min's disparaging remarks about Honam.
On the 3rd, the Gwangju City Party issued a statement saying, "Recently, Professor Seo Min, a strong supporter of People Power Party candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, conducted a YouTube broadcast with the thumbnail titled 'Hong-eo Junpyo'." They claimed, "The word 'Hong-eo' is an Ilbe-style term used by far-right conservative forces to disparage Honam and is an extreme term used to insult the victims of the May 18 Gwangju Uprising."
They continued, "Candidate Yoon has faced criticism for using Ilbe-style language in a photo of a 'dog apology' posted on Instagram. However, this time, Professor Seo Min blatantly used Ilbe terminology disparaging Honam in his YouTube broadcast to belittle the opposing candidate," criticizing him.
They added, "It is truly deplorable. How can the level of a leading candidate of the main opposition party be this low? Such language and mindset are shameful on a national level." They questioned, "Can we consider Candidate Yoon's apology and reflection on his 'Jeon Du-hwan praise' remarks sincere?"
