Gyeonggi Office of Education to Establish 15 New Schools Next Year... 94% Approval Rate in Ministry of Education Review
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education announced on the 31st that 15 out of 16 schools for which it requested school establishment review from the Ministry of Education passed the central investment review. This is the highest pass rate ever at 94%.
Gyeonggi Office of Education stated on the 1st that at the Ministry of Education's '2021 Regular 4th Central Investment Review' held on the 28th of last month, out of the 16 schools requested for establishment by the education office, a total of 15 schools passed the review, with 5 schools deemed 'appropriate' and 10 schools 'conditionally approved.' The average pass rates for the Ministry of Education's central investment review by year were 38% in 2020 and 66% in 2021.
However, the Ministry of Education presented the following supplementary opinions for the 10 schools conditionally approved: ▲ proceed according to the original school establishment plan ▲ submit a plan for unused school site measures ▲ report on the re-examination of school district separation plans before proceeding.

Choi Bok-yoon, head of the School Establishment Division at Gyeonggi Office of Education, said, "In this review, Gyeonggi Office of Education actively expressed the urgent need for school establishment due to overcrowded classes and long-distance commuting, leading to the conditional approval of the long-awaited Maegyo Elementary School and Giheung 1 Middle School." He added, "With an unprecedented pass rate of 94% in this Ministry of Education central investment review, it is expected that the educational environment in the province will greatly improve."
