"'Dismissal of Impeachment' Former Chief Judge Im Seong-geun: 'Gratitude and Respect for the Constitutional Court's Decision'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] Im Seong-geun, former chief judge who was the first in constitutional history to be subjected to impeachment proceedings for intervening in frontline trials and was dismissed by the Constitutional Court, expressed "gratitude and respect to the Constitutional Court for making a reasonable decision based on legal principles."
In a brief statement released on the 28th after the Constitutional Court's dismissal decision, former Chief Judge Im said, "Regardless of the reasons, I sincerely apologize for causing unnecessary misunderstandings and controversies that have caused concern to many people," and added, "I will live a life of service to society with a more humble heart going forward."

The Constitutional Court, in the afternoon ruling on the impeachment trial of former Chief Judge Im, dismissed the impeachment request by a majority opinion of five justices stating, "If removal is impossible due to the expiration of the term and the purpose cannot be achieved, the benefit of the impeachment trial ceases to exist."
