Woori Financial Group Donates 100 Million KRW for the Creation of 'Forest of Life' No. 3
Creation of a School Forest at Jinmyeong Girls' High School in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] Woori Financial Group announced on the 20th that it has donated 100 million KRW to the ‘Life Forest Association’ for the creation of the third phase of the ‘Woori Financial Life Forest’ project.
The third site for the ‘Woori Financial Life Forest’ was selected as Jinmyeong Girls' High School located in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. Through the establishment of a school forest, it will be used as a green resting area and outdoor educational environment for students and local residents.
Jinmyeong Girls' High School, founded in 1906 by Eom Jun-won, cousin of Sunheon Hwangguibi (純獻皇貴妃), was the first private women’s school established with national capital in Korea. Sunheon Hwangguibi was a concubine of Gojong, the 26th king of Joseon, and also the mother of Yeongchinwang, the second president of Woori Bank, which was the first bank established with national capital in Korea.
The third forest to be created this time will undergo detailed planning with related organizations, with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for September and a completion ceremony planned for November.
Previously, Woori Financial Group created the first forest at Inheung Elementary School in Goseong, Gangwon Province, in 2019 to support the restoration of the natural environment damaged by wildfires. Additionally, in December last year, the second forest was established at Eoul Elementary School in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, providing not only a healthy and outdoor educational environment for students but also a resting space for nearby residents.
