LG Electronics Expands Sister Village Partnerships to 3 Rural Communities for "Win-Win Cooperation with Farming and Fishing Villages"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] LG Electronics announced on the 18th that it is expanding win-win cooperation to promote the development of rural fishing communities by increasing the number of one-company-one-village sisterhood villages.
The places where LG Electronics recently signed sisterhood agreements are three locations: Geumcheon 2-ri, Chunsan-myeon, Uiseong-gun, Gyeongbuk; Heungjeon 4-ri, Dogye-eup, Samcheok-si, Gangwon; and Aesan 1-ri, Jeongseon-eup, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon. Including the regions with agreements signed in the first half of this year, the total number of sisterhood villages has increased to eight.
The one-company-one-village sisterhood is a win-win cooperation program where companies and villages sign agreements and actively engage in various exchange activities that help rural fishing communities, such as labor assistance and direct transactions of agricultural products. LG Electronics purchases agricultural products produced in the villages and donates them to local welfare facilities, supports home appliances for village communal facilities, and conducts volunteer activities during busy farming seasons when labor is needed. Additionally, it donates electric mobility aids (electric wheelchairs, electric scooters) to vulnerable groups and supports recovery efforts in case of disasters such as earthquakes and floods.
In the first half of this year, LG Electronics purchased large quantities of kimchi made from napa cabbage grown in sisterhood villages and donated it to several urban poor communities, and provided laptops to marginalized university students residing in sisterhood villages. LG Electronics plans to continuously expand the one-company-one-village sisterhood villages in connection with its domestic business sites.
Meanwhile, the LG Electronics labor union also announced that it is practicing the union's social responsibility (USR) by carrying out one-company-one-village activities in Changwon, Gyeongnam; Gumi, Gyeongbuk; Boeun, Chungbuk; and Cheongju, Chungbuk.
