3 Dead in 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake on Bali Island, Indonesia
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck Bali Island, a resort area in Indonesia, at 4:18 AM local time on the 16th, killing three people, according to foreign media including the Associated Press.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the epicenter was located about 51 km north of Denpasar, a city with a population of 834,000. The depth of the hypocenter was observed to be 10 km.
Afterwards, aftershocks of magnitude 4.3 and 3.6 followed.
The earthquake caused landslides in several places, resulting in two deaths. In the Karangasem area on the eastern side of Bali Island, houses and temples collapsed, and a 3-year-old girl died after being trapped under the debris.
A rescue official said, "Three people died and seven were injured due to this earthquake."

The villages in the Trunyan and Kintamani areas, famous for lake tourism, were also damaged. Some villages were reported to be isolated as roads were cut off by the earthquake.
