Gwangju Nam-gu Selects 21 Outstanding Resource Circulation Complexes
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Residents of Hyochon LH Cheonnyeonnamu Complex 7 in Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, have promoted a food waste composting project by installing worm breeding boxes and EM fermentation tanks to reduce food waste.
Thanks to these efforts, the amount of food waste discharged in the second quarter of this year decreased significantly by about 1.35 tons compared to the second quarter of the previous year.
According to Nam-gu (District Mayor Kim Byung-nae) on the 15th, as a result of conducting a resource circulation evaluation on 200 multi-family housing complexes with 50 or more households in the district, Hyochon LH Cheonnyeonnamu Complex 7 in Hyo-deok-dong and Mudeung Plaza Juwol 2nd Apartment in Bongseon 1-dong were identified as having achieved the most outstanding results.
Nam-gu conducted a resource circulation evaluation from April to June on 117 multi-family housing complexes with 50 to 299 households and 83 complexes with 300 or more households located in the district.
As a result of the evaluation, Hyochon LH Cheonnyeonnamu Complex 7 was honored as the best complex in the category of multi-family housing with 300 or more households.
The residents here have worked hard to create an eco-friendly apartment complex by reducing waste discharge through food waste composting and conducting campaign activities five times to improve awareness of resource circulation.
In particular, two worm breeding boxes and three eco-friendly fermentation tanks for composting food waste were installed within the apartment complex, significantly reducing waste discharge.
The amount of waste discharged from this complex from April to June this year was 7.15 tons, which is a reduction of 1.35 tons compared to 8.5 tons during the same period last year.
Mudeung Plaza Juwol 2nd Apartment in Bongseon 1-dong was selected as the best complex by reducing food waste generation by 45% (from 5.7 tons to 3.1 tons) compared to April to June this year and the same period last year.
The significant reduction in food waste generation was due to small but effective environmental protection practices such as disposing of fish bones and eggshells, which are not considered food waste, in volume-based waste bags, minimizing ingredient purchases, and cooking only the amount to be eaten.
In addition, among multi-family housing complexes with 300 or more households, Line Hyochin 2nd Apartment in Bangnim 2-dong, Hyochon LH Cheonnyeonnamu Complex 3 in Hyo-deok-dong, and Samik 2nd Apartment in Bongseon-dong were selected as excellent complexes. Among complexes with 50 to 299 households, Okcheon Apartment in Jinwol-dong, Yudal Park Mansion, and Jeil Park Mansion in Sajik-dong were selected as excellent complexes.
Nam-gu awarded resource circulation excellence certificates to two best multi-family housing complexes, six excellent complexes, and 13 commendable complexes.
