aT Gwangju Jeonnam Headquarters Forecasts Decline in Vegetable Prices Due to Slowing Consumption
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] aT Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation Gwangju Jeonnam Regional Headquarters (Head Choi Joo-hwan) announced on the 13th that it has published issue 2119 of the Gwangju Jeonnam agricultural products newsletter "Eolmayo" to help consumers shop smartly for agricultural products.
According to Eolmayo, vegetables showed a downward trend in most fruit and vegetable items such as cucumbers and green chili peppers due to favorable growth conditions caused by higher-than-average temperatures and increased sunlight.
Other vegetables such as radishes have remained stable without significant changes due to decreased dining-out demand amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Fruits saw dispersed demand due to the shipment of various seasonal fruits such as tangerines and sweet persimmons, while grapes showed a downward trend as consumer preference declined despite a decrease in supply after the main shipment period.
Regarding the outlook for the next two weeks, an aT official stated, “Cloudy weather is forecasted, which may worsen growth conditions such as reduced sunlight, causing some items like pumpkins to have somewhat sluggish shipments. However, due to increased supply from expanded shipping areas and the impact of social distancing leading to reduced consumption, most vegetables including napa cabbage and radishes are expected to show a downward trend.”
