Prosecutors Dismiss Defamation Charges Against Historian Jeon Woo-yong in Park Hyung-jun Case
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The prosecution has dismissed charges against historian Jeon Woo-yong (59), who was accused of defamation after raising suspicions about the family matters of Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun during the April 7 Busan mayoral by-election this year.
According to the prosecution on the 13th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office decided not to indict Jeon on the 6th regarding the case in which he was reported for violating the Public Official Election Act (spreading false information) and the Information and Communications Network Act (defamation by spreading false information).
Earlier, on March 21 of this year, Jeon posted a critical message about Mayor Park's family matters on his social media service (SNS), which led to a citizen filing a complaint against him.

The Seoul Mapo Police Station, which took over the case, summoned Jeon for investigation and, finding the charges credible, forwarded the case to the prosecution in July. However, the prosecution reportedly judged that the evidence was insufficient to recognize the charges based solely on the content of the reported post.
