Went to Drop Off Laundry Dirtyened by Son and Became a 'Millionaire'... Story of a 50s American Goes Viral
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A story about a man in his 50s who stopped by a dry cleaner to drop off clothes dirtied by his son and accidentally won the lottery has become a hot topic.
According to UPI News on the 7th (local time), a 51-year-old man living in Prince George's County, Maryland, USA, won a $1 million lottery (approximately 1.194 billion KRW).
The man explained to Maryland Lotto officials how he came to buy the lottery ticket. At the time, his son closed the car door with a fleece jacket caught in it and got into the car. Unaware of this, the man continued driving, resulting in the jacket touching the road and becoming very dirty.
As soon as he realized this, he and his son found the nearest dry cleaner. Coincidentally, the store also sold lottery tickets, so he purchased $2 worth of lottery tickets.
After returning home, he placed the purchased lottery ticket on a shelf and forgot about it. It was only after a week, when he checked the winning numbers on his phone, that he realized he had won the lottery.
He said, "(Upon learning about winning the lottery) I staggered backward and sat down, clutching my head."
