Administrative Order for Closure of Mapo Agricultural and Marine Products Market
Mapo-gu Orders Closure from the 8th Considering COVID-19 Situation... Decision on Reopening Agricultural and Marine Products Market to Follow... 'Visiting Temporary Screening Clinics' Extended Until October 16 to Prevent Further Infections
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) has issued an administrative order to close the Mapo Agricultural and Marine Products Market starting from the 8th to protect the safety of residents amid the spread of COVID-19.
As of the 8th, there are 63 confirmed cases among workers at the Mapo Agricultural and Marine Products Market.
According to the district, despite the voluntary suspension of operations at the Mapo Agricultural and Marine Products Market from 2 p.m. on October 6 to the 8th, concerns over further spread of COVID-19 community cluster infections have not been resolved, leading to a serious situation assessment.
Under this administrative order, the Mapo Agricultural and Marine Products Market will be closed from the 8th until further notice. The district plans to comprehensively consider the COVID-19 situation in the future to decide on the reopening of the market.
Starting with the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters' request on the 4th for COVID-19 testing of visitors to the Mapo Agricultural and Marine Products Market (from September 21 to October 3), the district conducted an on-site full investigation of the market on the same day, ordering approximately 570 merchants and workers to undergo COVID-19 testing by October 7 through an administrative order issued on October 5.
Additionally, to prevent further COVID-19 infections in advance and to facilitate rapid testing for market workers and visitors, a ‘Mobile Temporary Screening Clinic’ has been operating outside the Mapo Agricultural and Marine Products Market since the 6th.
The temporary screening clinic will continue to operate until October 16.
Furthermore, until October 6, the district operated a special inspection team responsible for promoting and enforcing mask-wearing within the Mapo Agricultural and Marine Products Market. To ensure a safe reopening, the entire market was disinfected twice over two days, October 5 and 6, by a professional disinfection company, demonstrating full efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The district will not stop there and plans to encourage all market workers who have completed COVID-19 testing to undergo a second test at the ‘Mobile Temporary Screening Clinic’ to preemptively block the possibility of additional infections.
