Naju City and Jeonnam Forest Resources Research Institute Join Hands to Promote Dementia Forest Services
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Hanhyuk Lee] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 8th that it has signed a business agreement with the Jeonnam Forest Resources Research Institute (Director Oh Deuk-sil) to verify the effects of dementia prevention and management and forest healing programs for local elderly residents.
This agreement ceremony was prepared as part of the national dementia responsibility system, a government national task to establish a regional win-win cooperation system, to activate dementia-specialized forest services through cooperation between the two institutions.
Six officials from both institutions, including Yoon Sang-sik, Director of Naju City Health Center, and Oh Deuk-sil, Director of the Research Institute, attended the agreement ceremony held at the Forest Resources Research Institute the day before.
The two institutions will establish a mutual cooperation system for ▲ cooperation in linking the ‘Bitgaram Healing Forest’ forest healing program ▲ utilization of forest healing resources and programs ▲ operation and effect verification of the forest healing farm.
The city will focus on recruiting and operating program participants, while the research institute will focus on verifying the effects of program operations such as the forest healing farm.
The Health Center plans to support psychological recovery through the forest healing program for a total of 16 households, including 8 households in the dementia prevention group and 8 households in the mild dementia patient group.
Yoon Sang-sik, Director of the Health Center, said, “I hope this will be an opportunity for elderly people who had few opportunities for outdoor activities due to COVID-19 and families tired of caregiving to enjoy healing in the forest filled with fresh air, escaping from their frustrating daily lives.” He added, “We will actively support the maintenance of healthy old age for the elderly through linked healing programs and cooperation utilizing resources from each institution.”
Meanwhile, the Naju City Dementia Safety Center operates dementia prevention classes, cognitive enhancement necessary for dementia management, and rest center classes for elderly people aged 60 and over.
