Gwangju Seo-gu, Nationwide Most Awards for 6 Consecutive Years at National Residents' Autonomy Expo
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Seo Dae-seok) has continued its best-ever record as the local government with the most awards nationwide for excellent cases for six consecutive years at the 20th National Residents' Autonomy Expo.
According to Seo-gu on the 5th, a total of 322 excellent cases from local governments nationwide were submitted for this contest.
After the first document screening and the second interview screening, 70 excellent cases were finally selected.
For the 70 excellent cases that passed the second screening, an online exhibition hall evaluation will be held for four days starting from the 12th. Among these, one to two best cases in each of the six categories will participate in the final evaluation held on the 30th at the Ulsan Convention Center to compete for the prestigious grand prize.
Seo-gu applied in all six fields: residents' autonomy, regional revitalization, learning communities, residents' organization networks, institutional policies, and special contests. Eleven cases were selected in the first document screening, and seven cases were finally selected as excellent cases in the second interview screening held on the 30th of last month.
Accordingly, Seo-gu became the local government with the most excellent cases selected for six consecutive years at the National Residents' Autonomy Expo.
In particular, this expo result is another achievement following the grand prize in the community strengthening category at the 12th National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Excellent Case Competition held in September, demonstrating Seo-gu’s role as a leading local government in residents' autonomy.
Seo Dae-seok, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, “I believe this is the result of our relentless efforts to advance Seo-gu-style residents' autonomy in the new normal era full of village autonomy and diversity,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to strengthen the actual authority of residents and realize a complete autonomous community where participation from various social classes leads to changes in the village.”
Meanwhile, in this contest, in the residents' autonomy category, Pungam-dong’s ‘New Pungam Village Enjoying Communication’ and in the regional revitalization category, Yang-dong’s ‘Taste! Style! Affection! The Loving Yangdong Village’ passed the second screening.
