Yoon: "Governor Lee Jae-myung Must Bear Criminal Responsibility for Daejang-dong Allegations... Not an Issue of Managerial Responsibility"
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, stated that "Governor Lee Jae-myung himself must bear criminal responsibility" in relation to the arrest of Yoo Dong-gyu, the former head of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation and a key figure in the Daejang-dong development scandal.
On the 4th, after the appointment ceremony of the Busan election committee held at the People Power Party Busan branch, Yoon was asked about Governor Lee’s comment that he "feels responsible as a manager" regarding Yoo’s arrest. Yoon responded with the above statement.
Yoon further explained, "This is not a matter of managerial responsibility (of Governor Lee Jae-myung). It is very clear."
In his greeting speech at the Busan election committee appointment ceremony that day, Yoon said, "There is a foul smell coming from Daejang-dong in Seongnam. Soon, it will be spreading nationwide," and claimed, "Until now, investigations and inquiries have been blocked, so the truth has not been revealed."
He added, "If the country were in such a state, would a former Prosecutor General come out to run for president? Whether from the ruling or opposition party, there is much to reform. Together with our party members and comrades, I will renew and change the country."
Regarding the part where Hong Joon-pyo, a rival within the party, argued that Yoon himself should take responsibility when the 'accusation for prosecution' suspicion involving Son Jun-sung, former head of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office’s Investigation Information Policy Division, became an issue, Yoon said, "That is Hong Joon-pyo’s opinion," and retorted, "If you talk about that on the same level, is this the Democratic Party or the People Power Party?"
Yoon also mentioned the issue of 'fake party members.' He explained, "Fake party members are those who exercise voting rights in the primaries but are Democratic Party supporters who will not vote for the People Power Party candidate in the general election," and claimed, "There are many such people who have joined our party. There is actually strong suspicion that can be reasonably guessed." When asked about specific evidence, he only said, "There are many rumors and such stories."
When asked if he would appear at the next TV debate with the character '왕' (King) written on his palm, he replied, "I said everything yesterday," and refrained from further comment.
Yoon’s visit to Busan that day was his second since declaring his presidential candidacy. His camp scheduled the first event as a visit to the Busan Sasang District party association, the constituency of People Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won.
