'Self-Evolving'... GM Unveils Next-Generation Software Platform 'Ultify'
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] General Motors (GM) announced its evolutionary integrated software platform, Ultifi, on the 4th.
Ultifi is a software platform independently developed by GM based on user experience (UX). It allows users to wirelessly access and configure in-vehicle software by linking smartphone applications or various device apps.
GM explained that through this, it has concretized its brand loyalty enhancement strategy by providing customers with greater convenience and a lifestyle closer to digital living.
GM vehicle users can update vehicle software with a single click like a smartphone through Ultifi, and select, save, and link functions tailored to themselves through personalized settings.
In particular, Ultifi makes decisions for the user even when they are absent by using settings stored in the cloud. For example, if the user leaves the car with the sunroof open and it starts to rain, Ultifi automatically detects this and closes the sunroof.
Moreover, drivers can start the engine using facial recognition through biometric technology, and special settings can be designated for novice drivers, such as paying extra attention in school zones by utilizing GPS information. It is also possible to link automotive and smart home technologies to control home temperature or security system settings.
Cloud connectivity extends to vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication, enabling communication with road infrastructure to warn drivers of hazards or changes in road conditions and to adjust traffic signal timings.
Scott Miller, GM’s Vice President of Software, said, "The core of this technology lies in its flexibility to connect with multiple devices and its capability for continuous updates," adding, "GM developers are designing the software for broad integration and more diverse services with Ultifi, which will provide differentiated and valuable services to customers."
