Jeonbuk City and County Council Chairpersons Association Adopts Proposal for Establishing Taekwondo Military Academy
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] The Jeonbuk City and County Council Chairpersons' Association (Chairman Kang Dong-hwa, Chairman of Jeonju City Council) held its 267th monthly meeting at the Muju County Council on the 30th and adopted a “Proposal for the Establishment of an International Taekwondo Military Academy.”
Through the proposal, the Chairpersons' Association urged, “The government, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kukkiwon, and other related organizations should actively discuss the establishment of an international Taekwondo military academy.”
They further appealed, “Actively prepare institutional and financial support measures to enhance the international status of Taekwondo, the national martial art (Gukgi) of the Republic of Korea.”
The international Taekwondo military academy aims to recruit students worldwide and operate a high-level, specialized curriculum for the quantitative and qualitative growth of Taekwondo.
It also educates trainees not only in Taekwondo poomsae and sparring but also in its history, spirit, and values, awarding graduates with global Taekwondo instructor qualifications.
In particular, the military academy is expected to become a cradle for nurturing well-rounded leaders who promote the dissemination and spirit of Taekwondo, contribute to the national strategic commercialization of Taekwondo in the 21st century, expand its status in the international sports community, increase practitioners, and support the global advancement of Korean culture as well as respond to China’s New Northeast Project.
Muju County has been conducting a large-scale signature campaign for the establishment of this Taekwondo military academy, and the Jeonbuk City and County Council Chairpersons' Association also adopted a proposal for its establishment in May last year, but there has been no significant progress so far.
Chairman Kang Dong-hwa said, “The establishment of the military academy is absolutely necessary to expand related educational opportunities for our citizens and Taekwondo practitioners worldwide and to further revitalize Taekwondo, the national martial art.” He added, “We will do our best to work with the government, Kukkiwon, and other related organizations to ensure that the military academy can be established in Muju, which has become a sacred place for Taekwondo.”
