Hanwha Q CELLS Completes 168MW Solar Power Plant in Texas, USA
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hanwha Solutions Q CELLS division recently completed a 168MW solar power plant in Panin County, Texas, USA, the company announced on the 30th.
This scale can produce enough electricity to supply 238,000 households (based on domestic standards) for one year. The newly built power plant will be operated directly by the company. Previously, in 2018, the company constructed the largest solar power plant in Texas with a capacity of 235MW.
The solar energy market in the United States is rapidly growing. According to market research firm IBISWorld, the solar energy-related market is worth approximately $8 billion and has grown at an average annual rate of about 24% over the past five years. Hanwha Q CELLS is raising its status in the US solar power plant EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) and module markets. Its cumulative EPC performance for solar power plants is 523MW, ranking it within the top 10. According to energy consulting firm Wood Mackenzie, it ranked first in residential solar for three consecutive years and first in commercial solar for two consecutive years.
The company explained that this is the result of quality management conducted under conditions up to three times harsher than the International Electrotechnical Commission quality inspection standards, earning quality recognition from global verification organizations. As the official sponsor of the US Major League Baseball LA Dodgers and with the Hanwha Q CELLS Golf Team, including world No. 1 female golfer Nelly Korda who won an Olympic gold medal, the company is also raising brand awareness through sports marketing.
The US Department of Energy forecasts that solar power could account for up to 40% of total electricity supply by 2035 and 45% by 2050, indicating that the local market is expected to steadily grow. To achieve this, the Department of Energy analyzed that an average of 30GW of solar power generation facilities must be installed annually by 2025. As of last year, the new solar installations in the US amounted to 15GW.
