Introduction of Dimming Control System for Streetlights in the District, Saving 30 Million KRW Annually

[Gangjin＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 30th that it has been selected for the ‘2022 Regional Energy Saving Project’ contest and secured a total project cost of 500 million KRW (40% national subsidy, 60% county subsidy).

This contest project, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, aims to stabilize energy supply and demand and improve energy efficiency within the region by evaluating the technical feasibility and energy-saving effectiveness of energy-saving projects and providing national subsidies for project costs.

In Jeollanam-do, projects from four cities/counties including Gangjin, Gwangyang, Naju, and Jangseong were selected.

The applied project is a two-way intelligent dimming control system for street (security) lights that automatically controls the brightness of street (security) lights by time zone, monitors the status of security lights in real time, and enables energy saving through remote control.

In particular, the county predicts that the annual energy consumption, which was 985 MW per hour before the project implementation, will decrease to 616 MW after implementation, expecting to save 37.5% (30 million KRW) of annual energy.

Starting early next year, the county plans to survey the locations of old sodium street (security) lights installed throughout the area, replace them with LEDs, and install the two-way intelligent dimming control system to reduce electricity costs and energy loss, accelerating energy saving efforts.

County Governor Lee Seung-ok said, “While saving and reducing energy is important, it is also very important to improve facilities in various forms according to their characteristics to increase energy efficiency in the long term,” and added, “We will continue to strive to create a pleasant and safe walking environment.”
