Gwangju Seo-gu Nongseong 2-dong Launches 'Crisis Household Discovery Team' to Prevent Solitary Deaths
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The Administrative Welfare Center of Nongsung 2-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City signed a business agreement with representatives of seven local lodging establishments to prevent solitary deaths, which have not been decreasing.
On the 29th, according to Nongsung 2-dong, Seo-gu, the representatives of the seven lodging establishments and the crisis household discovery team will act as honorary social welfare officers.
Since July, the visiting welfare team, together with the local community security council, has been directly visiting motels and other lodging establishments in the area to check the welfare needs of guests and provide customized welfare services through safety checks.
In particular, for long-term guests who are struggling due to unpaid monthly rent, social insurance fees, or other crisis reasons, urgent support, basic living security public benefits, and private support from community foundations and local residents have been promptly and actively linked.
A long-term motel guest, Mr. Lee, who received counseling, said, “I really thought this was the end of my life and came here losing hope, living day by day, but now that a helping hand has come, my will to live has been revived and I feel encouraged.”
The manager of the crisis household discovery team, who received a letter of appointment that day, said, “Most of those who stay long-term in motels are in difficult circumstances, but I always felt sorry because I didn’t know how to help them. I am happy to be able to help neighbors, and I feel a sense of responsibility as I understand their situation better than anyone else. I will continue to actively participate and fulfill my role.”
Heo Soon-seok, head of Nongsung 2-dong, said, “Lodging establishments are places where many involuntary single-person households live due to personal circumstances such as divorce and unemployment. We will do our best to prevent solitary deaths and discover crisis households by not missing voices from the field and reflecting them as much as possible.”
