Netflix Acquires US Game Developer 'Night School Studio'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Netflix, which has entered the game market to diversify its revenue, has acquired a game development company.
According to major foreign media on the 28th (local time), Netflix announced on its homepage that it had acquired 'Night School Studio.' Night School Studio is a U.S. game development company famous for the video game 'Oxenfree.' This is Netflix's first acquisition of a game development company.
Netflix explained that Night School Studio's games will be included in the newly created video game portfolio and that, like videos, games will be provided to members without ads or in-app purchases.
Founded in 2014, Night School Studio has developed games for Sony's PlayStation, Microsoft's (MS) Xbox, Nintendo's Switch, and personal computers (PCs).
The acquisition amount by Netflix was not disclosed.
Netflix also announced that it has launched five Android mobile games in Spain and Italy.

Earlier, in July, Netflix hired Mike Verdu, who previously worked at Electronic Arts (EA) and Facebook, as vice president of game development, and publicly announced through a shareholder letter that it would add video games to its content service.
