Ministry of the Interior and Safety Selects 11 Innovative Public Policy Ideas from Local Public Institutions for the People
Grand Prize: Four Cases Including Job Text Notification Service for Local Public Institutions
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 29th that it has selected 11 entries (4 grand prize winners, 4 excellence awards, and 3 encouragement awards) from the ‘2021 Local Public Institutions National Policy Idea Contest.’
This idea contest was held over 60 days from June 4 to August 3 and targeted local public enterprises and local investment and donation institutions to discover policies needed by the public. Notably, this year marks the 4th edition of the idea policy contest, which expanded its target institutions from local public enterprises to include local investment and donation institutions.
The contest was divided into four categories: human rights and ethical management, solving community issues, proactive administration, and resident participation, with a total of 151 submissions. The judging focused on feasibility and applicability, creativity and completeness, and scalability and effectiveness. After a fair review by a panel of private experts, a total of 11 ideas were selected.
The four grand prize winners included ‘Local Public Institutions Job SMS Notification Service,’ ‘Installation of PET Bottle Label Removal Tools on Outdoor Trash Bins,’ ‘Establishment of an Easy Online Application System for Special Transportation Users with Mobility Challenges,’ and ‘Development of a Subway Boarding System Coexisting with Wheelchair Users and Mobility-Challenged Passengers.’

Going forward, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to actively incorporate the adopted excellent proposals into local public institution policies by publishing a collection of innovative best practices in the second half of the year. Gu Bon-geun, Director of Local Economic Support, stated, “We plan to actively collect and listen to public opinions to promote innovation and social value realization in local public institutions,” adding, “We ask for the public’s continued interest in the innovation of local public institutions.”
