Korean Game Society "Representative Kim Taek-jin Should Be Selected as a Witness for the National Assembly Audit"
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] The Korea Game Society has argued that Kim Taek-jin, CEO of NCSoft, should be summoned as a witness at the National Assembly's audit.
On the 23rd, the Korea Game Society issued a statement saying, "NCSoft is the biggest beneficiary and the subject of controversy regarding probability-based items (loot boxes)."
The Korea Game Society pointed out, "User backlash and fatigue toward probability-based items have reached a peak," adding, "An industry criticized by users can never last long. Nevertheless, major game companies such as the 3N (NCSoft, Nexon, Netmarble) show insufficient efforts to change."
They continued, "The charging for probability-based items, which can generate huge profits in a short period, has already exceeded acceptable levels," criticizing the practice.
The Korea Game Society emphasized that NCSoft's attitude, position changes, and alternatives must be clearly revealed during this audit. They also stated that questions should be raised regarding CEO Kim's high salary, bonuses, stock dividends, and stance on family management.
The Korea Game Society stressed, "This audit should serve as an opportunity to build national consensus on resolving the probability-based item issue and to expedite the passage of amendments to the Game Industry Promotion Act."

Professor Wi Jeong-hyun of Chung-Ang University, president of the Korea Game Society, said, "If the internal self-regulation will and efforts of game companies do not meet users' expectations, external enforcement will be inevitable to bring about change," adding, "This audit should be one that triggers qualitative changes in the Korean game industry."
