Gwangju City Conducts National Safety Inspection Using Advanced Equipment
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City will conduct the '2021 National Safety Inspection' for 33 days starting from the 27th, targeting 532 sites across 7 sectors including buildings, energy facilities, and transportation facilities, with participation from Gwangju City, autonomous districts, public corporations, and private experts.
To this end, Gwangju held an initial briefing session on the 17th, chaired by the Deputy Mayor, to review the implementation plans of each institution and share opinions on the preparation status.
This year's inspection targets were selected focusing on hazardous and key facilities, reflecting the results of a survey conducted on citizens last October and recent facilities where major accidents occurred.
In particular, while joint public-private inspections are the principle for all facilities, drones will be used to inspect facilities with difficult accessibility such as high-rise buildings and bridges.
To enhance the effectiveness of safety inspections, Gwangju has formed a safety support group consisting of 100 experts in various fields such as civil engineering, architecture, electricity, and gas to support joint public-private inspections. In connection with the 'Establishment of a Full-Cycle Disaster Safety Platform Using Drones' project, drones will be used for about 20 facilities including steep slopes and bridges.
Minor issues found during safety inspections will be corrected on-site, while facilities with serious defects or urgent risk factors will have safety measures such as usage restrictions implemented first, followed by detailed safety diagnoses and repair reinforcements.
To ensure the enforcement of the National Safety Inspection, Gwangju will manage the inspection year, inspection methods, and pointed-out issues for all inspected facilities, and will separately form a 'Safety Inspection Implementation Monitoring Team' to check the status of safety inspections, operate a real-name system for inspectors, and review the follow-up management of last year's safety inspection results.
Additionally, a Citizen Safety Observation Group composed of citizens holding safety management certificates will support safety inspections, while promoting a voluntary safety inspection campaign targeting multi-use facilities to simultaneously spread a safety culture among citizens.
Yoon Geon-yeol, Director of the Social Disaster Division of the city, said, "Through this National Safety Inspection, we will raise citizens' safety awareness and encourage voluntary safety inspection practices to lay the foundation for preventing safety accidents."
