Harvard University Ranks 1st for 5 Consecutive Years in US College Rankings Survey
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Harvard University has ranked first in the U.S. college rankings for five consecutive years.
On the 22nd (local time), the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Harvard University secured the top spot again this year following the U.S. university evaluation conducted jointly with THE (Times Higher Education), a university ranking organization.
Stanford University rose two places from 4th last year to 2nd this year.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) dropped one place to 3rd, and Yale University ranked 4th.
Additionally, all eight Ivy League private universities ranked within the top 20: Brown University at 6th, Princeton University at 8th, Cornell University at 11th, University of Pennsylvania at 12th, Dartmouth College at 13th, and Columbia University at 16th.
Except for Stanford University (2nd), Duke University (5th), California Institute of Technology (7th), and Northwestern University (tied for 9th), more than half of the top 10 universities were located in the northeastern United States.
The WSJ and THE university rankings are based on 15 key factors across four categories.

Forty percent of the score is allocated to "student outcomes," including graduates' salaries and student loan repayment levels; 30% to "academic resources," such as the university's investment in teaching; 20% to "student engagement," which evaluates how students intend to contribute to society with the knowledge they have acquired; and 10% to "learning environment," which includes diversity among students and faculty.
