Hyundai Motor to Supply SK Innovation Batteries for 'Ioniq 7'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Eunbyeol] SK Innovation will supply the battery for Hyundai Motor Company's upcoming large electric sport utility vehicle (SUV), the 'Ioniq 7.'
According to the automotive and battery industry on the 22nd, SK Innovation has secured the battery order for the Ioniq 7 recently placed by Hyundai Motor. The Ioniq 7 is Hyundai's first large SUV model to apply the dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP and is scheduled to be unveiled in 2024.
Initially, the battery for the Ioniq 7 was expected to be produced by a joint venture established by Hyundai Motor and LG Energy Solution in Indonesia, but a separate order was recently placed, and SK Innovation reportedly won the contract independently.
SK Innovation is strengthening its cooperation with Hyundai Motor by securing the Ioniq 7 battery supply following the first E-GMP models, the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor first revealed the silhouette of the Ioniq 7 at the world's largest motor show, 'IAA Mobility 2021,' held in Munich, Germany, on the 6th, and plans to unveil the Ioniq 7 concept within this year.
