[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 22nd that it will provide a 30% discount on daily passes and a 15% discount on regular passes for users of Ddareungi who have completed bicycle safety education and passed the certification system.
The validity period of the certification and the discount period is two years from the certification date. Successful candidates will automatically receive the discount when purchasing daily or regular passes through the Ddareungi app after registering as members.
Earlier, Seoul newly introduced the ‘Bicycle Traffic Safety Education Certification System’ in June to enhance the effectiveness of bicycle safety education and to foster a proper and safe bicycle usage culture.
In accordance with adjustments to quarantine guidelines following the extension of social distancing by health authorities, the city has prepared measures such as limiting the number of participants and separating education methods to conduct education in a restricted manner while complying with quarantine rules.
Since face-to-face interaction is essential for the certification system, various measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases have been implemented, such as holding sessions in large spaces to maintain a distance of at least 1.5 meters between people or dividing examinees into teams to proceed at different times. The certification system and various bicycle-related education programs are open to all Seoul citizens, who can apply by referring to the schedules posted on the ‘Seoul Lifelong Learning Portal’ website, and the programs are free of charge.
