Jeonju City Launches Phase 2 of Eco City with Baekseok Lake Park Development
Promotion on the Former Air Squadron Site by October 2023
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 16th that it plans to promote the Eco City Phase 2 development project, which is being carried out in the Songcheon-dong 2-ga and Jeonmi-dong areas following the relocation of the Aviation Battalion to Dodo-dong, until October 2023.
First, Jeonju City decided to help the residents of Dodo Village, who lost their homes due to the relocation of the Aviation Battalion, to settle stably. To this end, it plans to create relocation sites for 38 households by September next year to support the residents' relocation.
Jeonju City also envisions transforming Baekseok Lake Park (58,680㎡) into a themed healing space.
Currently, in consultation with private businesses, it is conducting a landscaping plan (modification) service for the project area parks including Baekseok Lake Park, with a total project cost of 9 billion KRW. The plan includes features such as Sunset Terrace, Waterfront Deck, Chestnut Forest Trail and Forest Walkway, Waterfront Reed Path, and Lotus Gallery.
Jeonju City especially plans to install a 5 km ecological road (about a 2-hour walk) connecting the aquatic ecosystems of Baekseok Reservoir, Sebyeong Lake, and Hwajeong Reservoir, providing residents with an eco-friendly and safe walking environment.
In addition, two apartment complexes will be built as part of the Eco City Phase 2 development project, along with various infrastructure facilities to improve residential conditions.
Previously, Jeonju City has been promoting the Eco City development project to relocate the 35th Division and Aviation Battalion in the Hoseong, Songcheon, and Jeonmi-dong areas and create an eco-friendly ecological city for balanced development of the northern region.
In 2005, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Ministry of National Defense regarding the relocation of the 35th Division, which was moved to Imsil County. The Phase 1 site development construction was completed in June 2017. Additionally, four connecting roads around the area were opened to alleviate traffic congestion for residents.
