Kim Young-sun, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, "Waste Disposal Service Needs Improvement"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] On the 10th, Kim Young-seon, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, stated at the 2nd plenary session of the 298th extraordinary meeting that regarding the 'Seo-gu Household Waste Disposal Service,' "Service elements that enhance residents' life satisfaction should be emphasized more than mere economic efficiency."
Councilor Kim pointed out, "The private consignment of household waste management services by Seo-gu Office to a specific company has been monopolized for decades," adding, "As the specific company has repeatedly renewed contracts as a matter of custom, it has gained a monopolistic position, making it difficult to expect improvements in service efficiency and quality."
He continued, "Currently, the situation within Seo-gu is such that it is almost embarrassing to even mention that it is a pleasant and livable city, as not only the alleys but also the main roads are filled with garbage bags and recyclable waste that has not been properly separated," and stated, "To resolve this, it is necessary first to improve the household waste collection methods, encourage the use of volume-based waste bags, and provide resident education on proper recycling. Along with this, the demand characteristics such as the scale of local commercial districts and population density must also be considered to reorganize the waste collection routes and frequency."
