Video Summit with Mongolian President... "Key Partner in New Northern Policy, Further Development of Economic Cooperation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 10th, President Moon Jae-in held a virtual summit with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh and stated, "In particular, Mongolia has played a leading role in involving North Korea in regional dialogue through the 'Ulaanbaatar Dialogue,' and I hope Mongolia will continue to play an active role going forward."
President Moon expressed his gratitude for the Mongolian government's active participation in the Northeast Asia quarantine and health cooperation body, which he proposed during the UN General Assembly last September. He explained the South Korean government's proactive efforts, including the resumption of dialogue with North Korea for the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the establishment of lasting peace. Blue House spokesperson Park Kyung-mi explained, "President Khurelsukh expressed unwavering support for this."
President Moon said, "Now that the bilateral relationship has been elevated to a strategic partnership, I hope South Korea and Mongolia can play a more significant role in regional and global peace and stability. I also consider it meaningful that we are announcing a joint declaration outlining the concrete directions for expanding and developing our bilateral relations."
President Khurelsukh said, "I wanted to personally welcome President Moon at the Chinggis Khaan New Airport, which opened in July, but it is regrettable that the visit was canceled," to which President Moon responded, "I will visit as soon as conditions allow."
President Khurelsukh stated, "Mongolia is a peaceful country situated between Russia and China. We will simplify visa procedures and ease travel conditions so that many Koreans can visit, ride horses in peaceful pastures, relax comfortably, and enjoy tourism."
President Moon expressed, "Mongolia is a key partner in our New Northern Policy, and I hope we can further develop a mutually complementary and reciprocal economic cooperation relationship across various fields."
President Moon added, "I look forward to creating more opportunities for cooperation through linking Mongolia's 'Vision 2050' long-term development policy with our New Northern Policy."
President Khurelsukh said, "I have supported the Northeast Asia quarantine and health cooperation body from the beginning and will continue to do so unwaveringly. I hope that through close infectious disease response cooperation and the establishment of a joint system, our two countries will contribute not only to bilateral cooperation but also to responding to public health crises in Southeast Asia."
Spokesperson Park explained, "When President Moon heard that President Khurelsukh had administered vaccines to Koreans in Mongolia on the same basis as Mongolians, he expressed gratitude." President Moon said, "Our government is also administering vaccines to long-term foreign residents without discrimination between nationals and foreigners, and accordingly, Mongolian nationals in Korea will also receive vaccinations."
In his closing remarks, President Moon evaluated, "Just as our faces resemble each other, South Korea and Mongolia are close racially, emotionally, and culturally, share the same values, and have aligned ways of thinking. This was a time to confirm practical cooperation in various fields."
