'Unusual Situation in Gwangju' 19 Confirmed Cases Including Foreigners

According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 8th, as of 2 p.m. that day, 19 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, classified as numbers 4346 to 4364.
Four cases are related to testing of foreigners in Gwangsan-gu, nine cases are related to workplaces employing foreigners, five cases are contacts of previously confirmed patients, and one case was confirmed through symptomatic testing.
Cases 4351, 4355, 4363, and 4364 are related to foreigner testing in Gwangsan-gu. Except for case 4351, the other three were confirmed positive while in self-quarantine. So far, a total of 163 people have been confirmed positive in relation to foreigner testing in Gwangsan-gu.
Cases 4350, 4352, 4353, and 4356 to 4361, totaling nine people, are classified as related to workplaces employing foreigners.
The city has issued an administrative order for COVID-19 diagnostic testing targeting workplaces employing foreign workers, undocumented foreigners, and both domestic and foreign individuals until the 10th.
So far, a total of 17,896 people have been tested, with 44 confirmed positive. Forty-one people are awaiting test results.
Cases 4346 to 4348 and 4362 are contacts of case 4306, who was confirmed positive the previous day. Case 4346 is an employee of case 4306’s company, and cases 4347 and 4348 are family members of case 4346. Case 4354 is related to case 4288.
In the Gwangju area, as the spread of COVID-19 continues mainly centered around schools, quarantine authorities remain vigilant.
Following the confirmation of case 4338 the previous day, diagnostic testing was conducted for 493 students and 70 staff members at an elementary school in Buk-gu on this day. Test results are currently pending, and epidemiological investigations are underway to determine self-quarantine subjects and the possibility of remote classes.
Earlier, 21 confirmed cases including students, staff, and family members were reported at a middle school in Buk-gu.
From the 6th to the 7th, testing was conducted for 319 students, 54 staff members, and contacts such as family members. One hundred five people were placed under self-quarantine, and classes have been replaced with remote learning for all grades until the 17th.
Meanwhile, the 26th death due to COVID-19 in the Gwangju area has also occurred.
