COVID-19 New Cases 1,597... Record High Daily 1.36 Million Vaccine Doses Administered

Meanwhile, COVID-19 vaccinations gained momentum, with a record-breaking 1,364,815 doses administered in a single day on the 6th.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases increased by 1,597 from the previous day to 263,374. Among the new cases, 1,563 were locally transmitted and 34 were imported from overseas.
Of the locally transmitted cases, 66.4%, or 1,038 cases, were reported in the Seoul metropolitan area: 477 in Seoul, 474 in Gyeonggi, and 87 in Incheon.
There were 525 cases outside the metropolitan area. By region, the confirmed cases were as follows: 35 in Busan, 38 in Daegu, 34 in Gwangju, 34 in Daejeon, 45 in Ulsan, 5 in Sejong, 22 in Gangwon, 34 in Chungbuk, 81 in Chungnam, 30 in Jeonbuk, 34 in Jeonnam, 45 in Gyeongbuk, 84 in Gyeongnam, and 4 in Jeju.
There were 34 imported cases. Among them, 9 were detected during quarantine, and 25 were confirmed in the community. Fifteen were Korean nationals and 19 were foreigners.
The total number of tests conducted the previous day was 165,911. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 97,745 tests were performed, and 16,497 people were tested at temporary screening clinics outside the metropolitan area.

The previous record was 1,222,035 doses on the 17th of last month. On the previous day alone, 741,052 people received their first dose, and 623,763 received their second dose. Including 9,223 Janssen vaccine recipients, the total number of fully vaccinated individuals increased by 632,986.
The cumulative number of first-dose recipients reached 30,747,214. The vaccination rate is 59.9% of the total population and 69.6% of the population aged 18 and over. Among them, 3,948 received the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine, 698,854 received Pfizer, 29,027 received Moderna, and 9,223 received Janssen vaccines.

The number of fully vaccinated individuals increased by 632,986 from the previous day to 18,385,936. The vaccination rate for the second dose is 35.8% of the total population and 41.6% of the population aged 18 and over. Among those who received the first AZ dose, 9,926 received their second dose with AZ, and 2,821 received Pfizer as their second dose. An additional 348,907 people received their second dose of Pfizer only, and 262,109 completed their second dose of Moderna. The 9,223 Janssen vaccine recipients, which require only one dose, are included in the fully vaccinated count as of their first dose.
