According to Haenam County on the 6th, since the 3rd, the Skywalk and Marine Cable Car have been opened, showcasing the true charm of Usuyeong tourist site, where General Yi Sun-sin’s spirit of patriotism lives on.
The Uldolmok Skywalk, with a total length of 110 meters, was built to allow visitors to walk directly over the fierce currents of Uldolmok. It protrudes 32 meters straight out toward the sea, and the floor is made of transparent glass to maximize the thrill.
Underneath the glass floor, visitors can vividly experience the currents of Uldolmok, known as the fastest tidal current in Korea. This experience course has become a new landmark of Uldolmok, attracting attention since its opening.
There is no separate admission fee when entering the Usuyeong tourist site after paying the entrance fee (2,000 KRW for adults, 1,500 KRW for youths, 1,000 KRW for children, etc.).
The marine cable car crossing the 960-meter-long Uldolmok Strait also began operation on the 3rd. The route runs between Haenam Usuyeong tourist site and Jindo Nokjin Tower, with 26 gondolas each seating 10 people.
It was built with a total investment of 36 billion KRW entirely by private capital from Uldolmok Marine Cable Car Co., Ltd.
The view overlooking the historic site where General Yi Sun-sin achieved a great victory in the Battle of Myeongnyang is spectacular. In particular, 13 of the cable cars are crystal cabins with transparent floors, allowing visitors to thrillingly admire Uldolmok from the sky.
The Myeongnyang Marine Cable Car departs from Haenam station, stops at Jindo Manggeumsan station, and then circulates back to Haenam. The fare varies by adult and child: general cabins cost 11,000 to 13,000 KRW, and crystal cabins cost 15,000 to 17,000 KRW.
Especially, Haenam County plans to create a tourist attraction where visitors can stay longer through light tourism by installing lighting facilities and operating night services for the Skywalk and cable car. It is expected to become a new nighttime tourism spot combining the fantastic scenery of Jindo Bridge, famous for its twin bridges, and Uldolmok.
Haenam County has been fully preparing for the opening by establishing temporary shops, placing food trucks, expanding infrastructure such as parking lots and road signs, and forming a public-private council to ensure friendly hospitality so that the Skywalk and marine cable car can quickly settle as new tourism resources in the southwest region.
Additionally, the Haenam Humanities House project, being built at the birthplace of Beopjeong Monk, is scheduled for completion in the second half of this year, and the historical tourism village project, which will expand food-related infrastructure, aims for completion next year. These developments are drawing attention as they will firmly establish Haenam Usuyeong as the center of tourism in the southwest region.
County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan said, “The Skywalk and Uldolmok Marine Cable Car cross Uldolmok, famous for its strong currents, and are expected to bring new tourism demand to Usuyeong. We will do our best to operate them as landmarks of southwest tourism, linked with the Usuyeong historical tourism village and Humanities House projects, which are key initiatives.”
