[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 3rd, President Moon Jae-in held a luncheon with the newly appointed Speaker of the National Assembly and standing committee chairs at the Chungmugil Room of the Blue House, urging legislation for the people.
President Moon extended his congratulations to the newly elected Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly from the People Power Party, Jeong Jin-seok, as well as to the new standing committee chairs from both ruling and opposition parties. It is reported that the main topics of the day were not sensitive political issues but rather livelihood issues, including the New Year budget.
A senior Blue House official explained, "(Today’s presidential message) emphasized the significance of the election of the Deputy Speaker and standing committee chairs, and requested cooperation for legislation, including the budget bill and national agenda, in the last regular session of the Moon Jae-in administration."

There is also interest in whether cooperative politics, including the activation of the permanent consultative body among the ruling and opposition parties, will expand following the Blue House meeting. The Blue House had prepared a meeting last month between President Moon, Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, but it did not materialize. A Blue House official stated, "(Regarding the meeting between President Moon and Leader Lee) continuous efforts are being made."
