Kim Su-young, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Points Out 'Illegal Parking of Street Vendors at Yangdong Market'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Kim Soo-young, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, spoke regarding the ‘illegal parking of street vendors at Yangdong Market and the legalization of rooftop structures at Yangdong Market’.
On the 2nd, during the 5-minute free speech at the 298th extraordinary session plenary meeting, Councilor Kim stated, “Regarding the illegal parking of street vendors at Yangdong Market, merchants at Yangdong Market are suffering due to street vendors setting up a dawn market on the road section of Gyeongyeollo.”
He continued, “Operating street stalls on roads where cars pass not only damages the cityscape but also causes traffic congestion and increases the risk of traffic accidents.”
He then explained, “Many street vendors sell from vehicles and start setting up their spots from 4 a.m., so I ask for measures to crack down on illegal parking and stopping, as well as to eradicate street vending activities on vehicle-only roads.”
Regarding the illegal rooftop structures at Yangdong Market, Councilor Kim said, “These structures serve as storage rooms for equipment such as fire safety, electricity, communication, and CCTV, and practically, it is very difficult to move these facilities to other locations,” adding, “I hope the merchants’ association and Seo-gu Office will cooperate to find the best way to legalize these structures.”
