Imagine Beyond Imagination! ... The 29th Daegu Outdoor Advertising Awards Exhibition Held
Exhibition at Daegu General Distribution Complex Industrial Materials Hall from September 6 to 9
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A stage for imaginative competition ahead of its time, the Daegu Outdoor Advertising Awards will sound its fanfare over four days from the 6th to the 9th.
Daegu City will hold the “29th Daegu Outdoor Advertising Awards” at the Daegu General Distribution Complex Industrial Materials Hall to promote a bright and clean urban environment and the development of outdoor advertising culture.
With nearly 30 years of tradition, this event is sponsored by Daegu City and organized by the Daegu Outdoor Advertising Association.
The Daegu Outdoor Advertising Awards began in 1983 at Daegu City Hall under the name “Excellent Advertising Exhibition,” focusing on creating a sign culture and developing designs for advertising signs.
In 2012, it evolved into its current name, the “Daegu Outdoor Advertising Awards,” and has been held annually as a competition and exhibition of outstanding outdoor advertising design works.
In the past, outdoor advertisements emphasized visibility with large, flashy designs that stood out. Recent trends show smaller, more distinctive sign designs with diverse materials, fonts, and attachment methods.
The Daegu Outdoor Advertising Awards aim to establish a proper outdoor advertising culture in Daegu, discover unique ideas, and improve the qualitative level of outdoor advertising.
This year, 97 works were submitted through contests in the creative model sculpture (general public) and creative sign design (students) categories.
On the 27th of last month, a judging panel composed of professors and experts comprehensively evaluated the entries based on form, originality, eco-friendliness, and communicability.
The grand prize winner in the creative model sculpture category was Mr. Won Dong-yong, whose work expressed a modestly smiling restaurant using white, harmonizing with the urban landscape.
The excellence awards went to Mr. Park Dong-woo (Daeyong Advertising) for “Flower Scent Cafe,” made with recycled materials featuring soft circles and lines to create a friendly atmosphere for citizens, and Mr. Park Kyung-pil (B&B Advertising) for “Firefly Study,” which used natural plants in an eco-friendly way along with corroded iron plates and LED blinking effects.
In the creative sign design category, the grand prize was awarded to Jang Su-ho, a student at Youngjin College, for “DeliVeggie,” a work expressing a subscription service tailored for vegetarians that promotes an eco-friendly and healthy food culture amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which has reduced dining out and normalized contactless consumption.
Thirty-seven works, including the award winners, will be exhibited on the 4th floor of the Support Building at the Daegu General Distribution Complex Industrial Materials Hall from the 6th to the 9th.
The winning works will be submitted to the “2021 Korea Outdoor Advertising Awards” to be held in November this year.
